Defense Visual Information, a component of the Defense Media Activity, executes operational management and proponency of visual information (VI) for DoD components in support of U.S. military operations and activities. VI includes physical and digital still photographs, motion pictures, graphic art and animations, and related captions and metadata.
The Defense Imagery Management Operations Center (DIMOC), is the operational arm of DVI, providing full-spectrum management and distribution of visual information in support of U.S. military activities and operations around the globe. DIMOC operates three specialized VI management centers:
- The VI Services Center provides technical guidance and customer service to the VI and Public Affairs communities, the DoD, other government departments and agencies, and the general public.
- The VI Records Center receives, manages, digitizes and preserves historic physical images.
- Joint Combat Camera Center plans and coordinates the acquisition, collection of and access to current digital VI in support of joint operations across the range of military functions.
