Barbara A. Burfeind
Mrs. Burfeind transitioned to government service as a strategic communicator after more than 25 years in U.S. Navy public affairs. Barbara has served at the Defense Media Activity since 2008, first as Chief, Visual Information Strategy & Plans, and currently as the Director, Defense Imagery Management Operations Center (DIMOC).
In the Navy, she served as a DoD press officer, Public Affairs plans & policy officer, command PAO, and taught public affairs and photojournalism at the Defense Information School (DINFOS). She has traveled and worked in Europe, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Guam, the Philippines, Bermuda, Sicily (Italy), and Washington, D.C.
She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Oklahoma, and a Bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Syracuse University.
Barbara is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and was inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows in October 2012, recognizing her career contributions to public relations. She received her Accreditation in Public Relations + Military Communication (APR+M) in 2010 and was the 2011 APR+M Council chair.
